UIC PRO CHALLENGE RULES

1. ACCOUNTS AND ELIGIBILITY

1.1. Accounts: A player is only allowed one valid account in UIC. If more than one account is detected, all accounts may be deleted which includes match histories. A player will compete as an individual with no association to a league or any team, so no prefix is required, and may participate at any stage during a season.

1.2. ID requirement: An ID used in Gamedesire must have at least 250 games on it or have VIP status in order to type in any allocated lobby or at a table, unless extraordinary circumstances warrant a new one being used (for example, an existing ID being blocked in Gamedesire). Otherwise no new IDs unable to type will be permitted.

1.3. Symbols/characters/inappropriate IDs: Where an ID has special symbols or characters to represent letters, the ID in UIC may consist of ordinary letters as long as they spell out the same name. An ID which is deemed unsuitable or inappropriate must be changed. This includes any ID with cuss or rude words or any defamatory reference to another league or player. When requested, a player who does not change an ID deemed unacceptable for any reason will be removed from the competition.

1.4. Sharing devices: Where two or more players share the same device, residence or IP, they may compete but each must play on his or her own ID unconditionally at all times. Any breach of this rule would make a player liable to be penalised under Rule 6.1(i) – (maximum box/banishment for cheating).

1.5. Changing IDs: A player may not change his or her ID more than once each season, unless extraordinary circumstances warrant a different one being used. Should a player use an unauthorised ID, he or she will forfeit any wins gained whilst using that ID. UIC Admin may change any unauthorised ID back to the previous one if deemed necessary. Any ID change must be notified to UIC Admin. Failure to notify an ID change as requested will deem the player ineligible.

1.6. Removal: The UIC Admin team reserves the right to remove any individual who does not adhere to the eligibility qualifications at any stage during the season, or is deemed to be undesirable for any reason, and/or to withdraw any points or wins accrued in both the team and individual standings.

2. COMPETITION FORMAT

2.1. Tournaments/divisions: The competition will be run as weekly single-elimination tournaments or as True Swiss tournaments, as decided by the UIC Admin team, held on a set number of days or weeks as stipulated on the website. If run as tournaments involving participants from three Divisions, namely the Diamond Division, the Emerald Division and the Ruby Division, the hierarchy will be in the order listed. The participation of players in each division will be determined before the competition commences by the UIC Admin team, based upon a player's ability, achievements and standings in UIC Swiss and other designated competitions. If run as qualifying tournaments, all participants compete in the same tournament, unless the competition is run as gender-based True Swiss tournaments and the minimum number needed to make a tournament run is 6 players. Where tournaments are run in pairs on a particular day, a player's best score will count towards the standings. A player scoring a 6–0 outright win may not compete in the second tournament on the same day. The Ruby Division or section may be run as a consolation competition for losing semi-finalists in Diamond and Emerald as deemed necessary.

2.2. Matches: Where run in an elimination format, a match in any round of a tournament will be played either as the best of an odd number of games (example, best of 7 games), or up to a set number of games, win by two (example, up to 7 games, win by 2).

The exact format will be stipulated on the website.

2.3. Points system: In each weekly single-elimination tournament, a points system will apply as follows: Winning a tournament: 8 points, losing finalist: 6 points, losing semi-finalist: 5 points, losing quarter-finalist (last 8): 4 points, losing in last 16: 3 points, losing in last 32: 2 points. The points will be added to each player's total and will apply to his or her division only. A player who is a 'no show', or fails to complete his or her first match, in any tournament will score no points. In each weekly True Swiss tournament, each win will count as one point. Bonus points may be awarded for 'stay and play', and also for winning a tournament outright or sharing,
as stipulated on the website.

2.4. Equal points: Where players tie on points in a division, the higher number of tournament wins will determine the higher positions, followed by, if equal, the higher number of second places, and then third places if still tied; or in any elimination qualifying format, losing finalists, losing semi-finalists and losing quarter-finalists, in that order, until the positions are determined. If there is still a tie on points, ratings as given by Cases will determine the positions. In the True Swiss tournaments format, firstly Overall tournament wins and secondly Shared tournament wins will be taken into consideration in the event of points being tied.

2.5. Play-offs: At the end of the season, play-offs will be held for a division as follows: Quarter-final (first to 5 games, win by 2) – Match 1 – 1st place v 8th place, Match 2 – 2nd place v 7th place, Match 3 – 3rd place v 6th place, Match 4 – 4th place v 5th place. Semi-final (first to 5 games, win by 2) – Winner Match 1 v Winner Match 4, Winner Match 2 v Winner Match 3. Final –  (first to 7 games, win by 2). In the True Swiss tournaments format, the play-off format may be modified depending on the number of participants. Alternatively, for a gender-based True Swiss competition, the UIC Admin team will determine the format.

2.6. Winners/promotion: Where divisions apply, the winners of the Diamond Division and Emerald Division play-offs will contest the Final for the overall UIC Pro Challenge title. Where applicable and only if the format allows, the winner and runner-up of the Emerald Division may gain promotion to the Diamond Division for the following season. The winner and runner-up of the Ruby Division will gain promotion to the Emerald Division for the following season. Other promotions or relegations or 'wildcard' entries may be permitted by the UIC Admin team as deemed necessary and appropriate at any time during the competition.

3. GAME PLAY

3.1. Table set-up: A player must ‘Create Table’ and the table set-up must have the following ON and applying: ‘Regular Game’, ‘Allow Watchers’, ‘Allow Guests’, ‘Allow guests/watchers to access chat’, ‘SafeGame’ and ‘Rated Game’. Under ‘Security’ and ‘Maximum Allowable Disconnection Time’ must be set at maximum. Under ‘Game/Move Time’, the ‘Game Time’ must be set at maximum and the ‘Move Time’ left off. There are no table timers as in this competition.

3.2. Incorrect set-up: Excluding the ‘Move Time’, if any of the above have not been set up, the opponent MUST request a re-rack BEFORE 4 balls of the same denomination (either solids or stripes) are potted. Once 4 solids or stripes have been potted, the game must be continued to completion. If a re-rack is requested in time, the player causing the incorrect table set-up, must abandon the game and remake the table correctly. Screenshots can be taken if necessary as evidence. Under no circumstances must a game be re-racked for incorrect set-up once 4 solids or stripes have been potted. If a screenshot shows that a re-rack should have applied but the player setting up the table incorrectly refused to re-rack and goes on to win the game, the result will be reversed after the tournament.

3.3. Safety shots/ball in hand/re-racks: Safety shots (snookers) and Ball In Hand are permitted at all times. Re-racks are NOT permitted unless the 8-ball has been sunk directly on the break, or before a solid or stripe ball has been potted (an ‘open table’), or if a case of incorrect set-up has been detected in time as per Rule 3.2. If an unauthorised re-rack is detected by the UIC Admin team, the result of the initial game leading to the re-rack will count for the purposes of the match.

3.4. Lost connection: Where a player has lost connection, has frozen or is unable to continue (ie. his or her cue is immobile on the screen), the opponent must not continue to play and a timer must be requested. Every player is entitled to a timer and playing on with the opponent absent is strictly prohibited. A player continuing – and winning – a game when the opponent is absent will have the win voided. In such a case, a re-rack may be ordered by the Referee or the game and win will count as void.

3.5. Gamedesire boots: If Gamedesire boots a player from a table while he or she is actually playing in a game and the opponent is automatically given a win as a forfeit, the game must be replayed. However, if a player that looks like he or she is going to be defeated and suddenly forfeits, it will count as an intentional force forfeit and a penalty will be applied.

3.6. Glitches: Should a game be delayed due to any technical glitch where one or both players cannot open a table or start the game, and other options have been tried (including rebooting the players’ computers, and re-signing-in to Gamedesire), then the hosting TD or UIC Swiss Admin may award the game to the higher ranked player specifically to enable the tournament to advance.

3.7. Slow play: Deliberate slow play or wasting time will not be tolerated. If a player is deemed to be doing so then he or she will be warned by the TD or UIC Admin and if this warning is ignored then he or she will be disqualified in that game.

3.8. Coaching/Screen sharing: Coaching is not permitted. The use of Team Viewer, Skype Sharing or any other screen sharing device or application during a tournament is strictly prohibited. Any breach of this rule would make a player liable to be penalised under Rule 6.1(i) – (maximum box/banishment for cheating).

4. RECORDING GAMES / SCREENSHOTS / TIMERS

4.1. Recording games: Unless otherwise directed, no games in UIC matchplay need to be recorded by Camtasia or a similar recording program. However, UIC Admin reserve the right to selectively request a player to cam all games and submit tapes as directed. Failure to comply will result in removal from the competition.

4.2. Screenshots: Screenshots or recorded tapes may be made by players and submitted as evidence if deemed necessary. A screenshot or tape must be labeled correctly as follows: Opponent’s name, round and date, with screenshot number if more than one is submitted. Example: ‘ace_player_round1_10Jan20_1’. All screenshots or tapes must be emailed to an on-duty UIC Admin as soon as possible. No match must be held up to view any screenshot or tape unless directed by UIC Admin.

4.3. Reviewing evidence: To avoid delaying the progress of the tournament, in most cases screenshots and tapes will be reviewed after the completion of the tournament. Where a match is reversed after a tournament, the losing player may be awarded points to compensate for being eliminated during the tournament.

4.4. Timers: All timers are 7 minutes. Any timer imposed is cumulative, and does not restart at the full amount. A player requesting a timer must to contact the TD to ask for one. A player who returns after being placed on a timer MUST contact the Referee to ask for the timer to be taken off. If he or she fails to do this then the timer will continue until they comply. If a player has been put on a timer and fails to return he or she will lose that game. In the play-offs, a timer will apply for game 1, and game 2 if applicable, after which a player will lose by default if still a 'no show' after the first two games.

5. BEHAVIOUR AND SPORTSMANSHIP

5.1. General behaviour: A member is expected to behave sportingly and with courtesy at all times. A member is also expected to respect all other members and staff. Any form of abusive, foul or offensive language, gamesmanship, goading, harassment, homophobic remarks, intimidation, jinxing, provocation, racism, taunting or any form of unacceptable or unsporting behaviour, including making aimer accusations whether in the lobby or any other lobby or at a table is not permitted. Any breach of this Rule will make a member liable to be sanctioned in accordance with the Penalties outlined below or have points deducted from his or her Individual standings.

5.2. Cheating/suspected cheating: Any form of cheating or suspected cheating is strictly not permitted. This includes the suspected use of any aiming program. The UIC Admin team are empowered to place in the penalty box, or remove from the competition, any player who is heavily suspected, proven or not. Where a match is reversed either during or after a tournament, the points will be amended accordingly. A losing player may be awarded points to compensate for being eliminated during the tournament.

5.3. Disreputing UIC: A member must not, at any time, bring the name or reputation of UIC or any of its competitions or staff members into disrepute by defamation, or by making adverse comments about the competition or staff members in the lobby or at tables, or in another league’s lobby or room, or by spamming material or details of another league in any lobby.

5.4. Booting from table: A player must NOT boot a spectator, or an opponent immediately after a game, from a table without just cause. If proven to be an unwarranted booting, supported by a screenshot(s), this will be viewed as unsporting behaviour. A player must NOT boot the hosting Referee or UIC Admin from a table under ANY circumstances. This would be considered to be a serious offence.

5.5. Booting protocol: A player feeling there is just cause to boot a spectator from a table (for disruptive behaviour for example) must (a) ask that person to stop typing (screenshot taken). If the spectator carries on typing, (b) he or she must be asked to leave the table (screenshot taken). If the spectator has ignored both (a) and (b), he or she may be booted. Screenshots must be taken by the player booting to substantiate his or her actions. Coaching (which is permitted) is NOT a reason to boot any spectator.

6. PENALTIES

Penalties have been sorted into 4 categories with Category A being the most serious, through to Category E being more of a misdemeanour. This has been done so that a player will know in advance what the likely penalty will be for any given action and therefore govern yourself accordingly.

7. APPEALS / RULES ADDENDUM

7.1. Appeals protocol: A player may appeal against any penalty incurred in UIC but must do so in a respectful and business-like fashion. An appeal may be submitted by email or on Trillian to the Head Admin, where a player will be required to give full details explaining the nature of the appeal, and support it with evidence, if possible, including screenshots or recorded tapes. A screenshot or tape must be labeled correctly in accordance with Rule 4.2. The email address for any appeal is darkpoolshooter@hotmail.com.

7.2. Appeals timing: The appeal must be submitted within 3 days of the notification of the boxing, otherwise it will not be considered.
