REPORTING A LOSS

Rule 2.7 in UIC Swiss says that a player MUST report losing a game immediately using the tournament website (by clicking on the 'Report' button on the home page). Reporting is SO EASY to do and here follows a step-by-step guide to help you through this simple process.

1. Assuming you have the tournament page open, once the tourney starts the Pairings page will be active. In the left menu, you will see REPORT listed. Click on it and it will open the Report page.

2. On the Report page, find your match which will be listed. Simply click on the button alongside the winner's name – not your name. We stress THE WINNER'S NAME. Once submitted, this will record your loss on both the Pairings and Standings pages.

3. Fill in your password in the box at the top. It is the same password which allowed you to jump the tourney!

4. Simply click on Report Loss and it's done!

Serial offenders – those who continually do not report a loss – will be boxed for unsporting behaviour (under 'lack of cooperation').

FAQ's

Q. Why do I need to report losses when I do not do this in my league?

A. In your league your TD is happy to report losses in relatively small tourneys. But in UIC Swiss we have far more games being played so players reporting losses speeds up the whole process. One objective of a Swiss TD is to get each round completed as quickly as possible in order to allow the tourney to flow without unnecessary delays.

Q. But surely I can just private message the TD to report a loss? He/she only has to click the winner's name red after all!

A. This would put pressure on the TD needing to see your report AND all others typed in the lobby or private message. The TD has to pick out the reports from the lobby banter, which usually flows quite quickly, whilst possibly dealing with other matters such as timers, withdrawals and any other issues that invariably crop up. Even though it IS a simple process to click on a winner's name on the TD's tourney page, keeping tabs on every game does take time and it would definitely cause delays in advancing to the next round.

Q. What if I have problems reporting?

A. Private message the TD and tell him or her. He or she will happily report for you but please do not make a habit of this! You have an ID with a password and it is the same ID and password you needed to jump the tourney in the first place! On the odd occasion you may encounter an internet issue which does not allow reporting to happen; in such cases the TD will assist you.

Q. Look, I have just been cheated out of a win because the 8-ball wobbled in the pocket and should have gone down and my opponent did not deserve to win, so damned if I am going to report a loss like that!

A. So this selfish act of not reporting leaves the TD asking in the lobby who won your game. This takes time and causes delay. Ok, you're annoyed at losing your game but this is NO EXCUSE for not reporting. If you're happy to not report because you are a sore loser, be happy to take a possible boxing for 8 days!

Q. So you'd box me because I do not report? How unfair is THAT?

A. Our TDs always help out where possible and at the moment we do not have an automatic box policy because we know some players genuinely have the odd problem reporting. But serial offenders who do not report WILL be boxed for lack of cooperation. Reporting your loss is so easy and will take under a minute – there is NO EXCUSE not to do it.

Q. Is there a quick way to report a loss?

A. One way of quickening the process is to open the REPORT page INSTEAD of the Pairings page. This way you get the same list of games and can just as easily see your opponent as using the Pairings page. But the benefit of keeping the Report page open is that you can report a loss immediately! So easy!
